Default Trump administration going to "fix" antiquated weather forecasting system

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem slammed the “ancient system” used to warn the public of potential weather threats — and vowed the Trump administration plans to “fix” the technology.

You know, maybe there are some things than need to be spun.

But here is a disaster in central TX that doesn't need to be spun, or scored points from. It is
a disastrous flood.......no one is blaming Trump or his administration......but they feel they have to spin it and get some points ?

They are that afraid that they will get blamed for a natural disaster ? This is a laughing stock concept and idea.

How in the world did you come up with that crock of shit? And we are told that TDS doesn't exist.

Texas lawmakers failed to pass legislation to improve the weather warning system for local areas. Some legislators now have regrets. The storm that hit central Texas on July 4th dumped a large amount of water in a very short period of time when most people were still sleeping.

Flash flooding was in the NOAA warning reports.
If folks don't pay attention, well...
Yes a sad situation
Seriously though, when my kids all went to camps, there was always a 24 hr human watching local NOAA on line.

That is what local sheriffs office and emergency response people are supposed to monitor.

And now the looney left is blaming Trump.

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trum...ooding-2095437

Even Rosie O’Donnell, noted meteorologist in Ireland, is blaming Trump.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/rosie-...-texas-floods/

However, all of the people who were actually involved are saying that a flash flood warning was given a full 3 hours ahead of the rain, and a severe weather alert 12 hours before.

It is also noted that the NWS had 5 extra people on staff.

However, nobody foresaw the torrential downpour.

But that doesn’t stop the left from blaming The President.

Because that is what stupid, uninformed Democrats naturally do.

That may be true, but not for this amount of water. From the link in post #5.

He stressed an alarm system may not have helped much in this instance because the floodwaters came so quickly. Between 2 and 7 a.m., the Guadalupe River in Kerrville rose from 1 to more than 34 feet in height, according to a flood gauge in the area.

“I don't think there was enough evidence to even suspect something like this was going to happen,” he said. ”I think even if you had a warning system there, this came in so fast and early in the morning it's very unlikely the warning system would have had much effect.”

I think NPR provided good information about the flood https://www.npr.org/2025/07/06/nx-s1...ather-forecast though I recognize many here are not NPR fans. A key point is the vacant warning coordination meteorologist, "acting as a liaison to public safety officials, including emergency managers, and providing government officials with information on severe weather." I read elsewhere that there were two meteorologists brought in to augment the standard three to assist.

There was no quote by Trump about plans to update an antiquated weather forecasting system, NWS is part of the Dept of Commerce. How KN have any idea?

Clear cut case of TCS

Hilarious. If Biden had been president, you'd be doing all you could to lay it at his feet. I'm surprised MAGA hasn't found a way to blame the dems.

Meanwhile, TX has a governor that sits around saying prayer stopped the waters from rising further. I suppose god just didn't give a fuck about it until people started praying.

Default Red State Mismanagement and TrumpMusk killed a lot of Americans this weekend

The Repub TrumpMusk death count in this latest Red State mismanagement and TrumpMusk disaster continues to far exceed deaths in the recent Climate Change "Hoax"-caused California wildfires.

From what I understand one or some MAGAs here live in Texas. Of course, I hope them and their family and friends are living off the land and never needing assistance from Federal Tax dollars are all ok.

The NWS was one of several federal agencies targeted by the controversial cost-cutting efforts of the Trump administrations Department of Government Efficiency, and has recently laid off nearly 600 employees around the same amount of staffers it lost in the 15 previous years, the Texas Tribune reported.
