Election and Political Ads

I don't know if I can take another 40+ days of these stinking political ads. Frankly I can't wait until election day is over with, so I can watch TV without being interrupted by the ever increasing pile of shit on the airwaves. I realize that this only happens every four years, and it's free speech and all that; but it got old about 7 months ago. Now it's just plain insulting, with all this shit being shoveled and thrown around by politicians, I don't trust or believe any of them. I think they are all full of shit. It would be nice if you could program TV's to skip these any any other types of annoying ads, so you don't have to see or listen to them. I get tired of muting the sound or changing channels every time one comes on. But what is a person to do?

I agree with you sexuser, and the ads that I really dislike are the ones that say so and so voted 10 times to raise taxes, or cut this program etc. It is really hard with those in legislative branch with committees etc to know the exact truth. It is a case of where you can manipulate the facts to make things look quite different from reality.

It's getting to be every two years now. There is big money even in state races that buy TV time. Look up ads that smell fishy on factcheck.org or snopes.com. Put the candidates name in the search bar. I just looked up an Iowa candidate last night to see how much truth was in the ad his opponent was running and found out it's 98% BS.

The problem is you can't trust many of those websites, as they are agenda driven as well. Plus, too often they take differences of opinion and call it a lie when it fact it is a different view.

Nope, not in the political world. Even the economic world. You can skew things a lot just by what date you use to start and stop something. Plus there is a time lag between policy change and actual effect on the economy, which is hard to figure. A dead fish is a dead fish. It requires an opinion to differentiate an unnatural and unhealthy fishkill at the edge of a body of water from an onshore fish fry.

I am nerdy enough to do my own fact checking rather than rely on opinionated sources. The lazy response to this is usually "I don't have the time." Of course we have the time. We all have pretty much the same amount of time available - 24 hours per day, it is what we choose to spend it on. I have no respect for uninformed opinion about anything. Kinda like making judgments about a provider one has not researched or met.

I don't watch all that much live TV expect football. Thank God for DVR, that way I can fast forward through all the political commercials.
