A solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

Quote:
A flood of Republican-backed efforts to tighten voter ID laws is serving as a distraction from more serious threats to the American voting system, according to top election security experts.
“[Washington] is chasing false narratives and leaving open all the vulnerabilities that are only worse now,” said Michael McNulty, policy director at Issue One, a bipartisan organization that tracks election issues.

We've already seen the evidence of how poorly the SAVE database works.

The bill would also require states to send their voter rolls to DHS’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a program run by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that has faced scrutiny for reportedly purging eligible voters from state voter rolls.

Meanwhile
Quote:
The Trump administration rolled back CISA’s election security work last year, which previously included hundreds of cybersecurity assessments for local election officials. The agency also previously provided security assessments that evaluated the physical security of voting locations, election offices and tabulation centers.
The funding cuts to election security work also forced the Election Infrastructure-Information Sharing and Analysis Center to close its doors last year. The EI-ISAC, which was previously housed at CISA, provided technical assistance and guidance to election offices across the country at no cost. State officials can now get an EI-ISAC membership if they pay to join the Center for Internet Security’s Multi-State ISAC.

Chip Roy, who's running for TX Attorney General misleads on the SAVE act and the SAVE database.
He says states are being prohibited from matching their voter rolls against the SAVE database (different from SAVE act), the "database that we have on citizenship"
SAVE is a program run by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the Department of Homeland Security to verify people’s immigration status for government benefit eligibility. It is not a comprehensive list of all U.S. citizens and non-citizens. It checks various federal records but doesn’t itself contain a complete citizenship registry.
SAVE wasn’t built for voting verification, and experts, courts, and watchdog groups have noted it can flag U.S. citizens as non-citizens and lacks complete immigration or citizenship records.
Roy says you can register to vote with a REAL ID. Misleading as the vast majority of REAL IDs do not show citizenship status.
Roy says the SAVE act will allow married women with differing last names on birth certificate and voter registration or ID to simply sign an affidavit to resolve the problem and re-register to vote.
IIRC (correct me if bill has been updated)
Under the bill’s text as passed by the House, an affidavit by itself would not be enough to verify a married woman’s name change for voter registration purposes; documentary proof of the name change would be required.

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks wouldn't fib to us, would she?

In 2011, Republican Governor Terry Branstad appointed Miller-Meeks director of the Iowa Department of Public Health which she led until 2013; she resigned in 2014 to run for Congress.
Based on Iowa regulations in 2011, there was no specific citizenship requirement listed for the Director of the Department of Public Health.
Generally, state employment requires authorization to work in the United States....as opposed to citizenship.
In 2011, Iowa Code Chapter 135 governed the Department of Public Health.
Section 135.2 provided that the Governor appoints the director of the department, subject to confirmation by the Iowa Senate. There was no citizenship requirement stated in that appointment language.
Section 135.3, the disqualifications section, focused on office‑holding conflicts (e.g., the director not holding another lucrative state office) and did not include a requirement that the director be a U.S. citizen.

All this time I thought we were a representative republic, like where the elected officials are supposed to represent the will of the people? I guess not, and our representatives should reflect the will of only the small fraction of dissenters. I believe there’s a word for that.

Sure there is. Actually, there's a couple of different words. MAGAts and evangelical xtians. They only represent a small subset of the GQP, yet they continually try to push their simple minded bullshit on the rest of us.

How quickly they forget getting blown out at the ballot box. A hell of a lot more than trump lackeys and evangelicals are all in on tightening up elections. Pretty much just yourself, Rooster and a couple 22 year old chicks from Berkeley with purple hair and a septum piercing are against it.

Interesting how you think a bunch of maggies on a hooker board represent any significant portion of the electorate. Sort of the way your fake pirate salty likes to create imaginary bullshit.
You really expand the definition of "blowout." I suppose you could look at the sweeps against MAGAts that are happening for better examples.

Unfortunately Congress is working as intended. Our real problem is that gerrymandering has taken away our voting power and the result is one of the most partisan congress in recent history.
The save act has a number of poison pills in it that make it impossible to pass in the senate. We could come up with a new voting rights act if only both sides would agree to compromise.

And the 213 Dems, don't forget. The 213 Congressional Reps that voted against it. Cuz that is kinda what this was about....

The only reason ANYONE believes this is because they've been lied to about this so thoroughly by MAGA.
Voter suppression. Plain and simple. That is all that it is.
